Senior Girls Rugby Team Enjoys First Ever Season!
Our Senior Girls, along with their Coach, Mr. Travis Head, are the first ever rugby club at Warburg School. Coach Head brought his rugby experience and love of the game to the Warburg School pitch in the Spring of 2018 and recruited 17 Senior High girls to join up, including two from Thorsby High School. After practicing twice weekly for a couple of months the girls were ready to compete at the St. Joseph’s High School tournament in Red Deer on May 11th. Although they did not win a game in the tournament they certainly made their presence known with their tough tackles and success in the skills competition. Their fierce competitive spirit was the talk of the tournament, according to Coach Head, and he was extremely proud of the heart, toughness, and character they exhibited while playing some very experienced teams from schools with massive populations compared to Warburg.
Their final rugby game of the season was on Wednesday, May 16th, versus John Maland High School in Devon. Finishing strong with a win in the last of the 3 games, the girls played incredibly tough to earn the victory, said Coach Head after the game.
