Welcome to Kindergarten at Warburg School

1. The first day of kindergarten is Thursday, August 27, 2026.

2. Please enter through the east school doors at 8:45am, and walk your children to our classroom. This later start will help the kindergarten students miss the first day of school rush of the other students. and walk your children to our classroom. When you enter there will be shelves in the bootroom for your child to store their outside footwear.

When are Kindergarten Days: 

Classes are Tuesday and Thursday FULL days (8:35 a.m. – 3:05 p.m.) adding one to two Wednesdays per month beginning in November. The doors to the school open at 8:20 am for student entry. 

There will be some Wednesday classes starting in October, please see the schedule on the kindergarten website for all kindergarten class dates.

Do Kindergarten students start on the first day with the other students?

On their first day, students will arrive a little later than the rest of the grades to allow a less hectic introduction to kindergarten. Students will remain in the classroom until the end of the school day.

What can we expect our children to learn in Kindergarten? 

You can expect a developmentally appropriate practice in our kindergarten class.  Children will increase their skills in four areas through play-based development:  cognitive, physical, socio-emotional and language.  Through play based learning children develop a strong foundation for current and future learning.

What supplies will students need for kindergarten?

• Inside (non-marking) shoes that students can successfully fasten and remove independently.

• Backpack large enough to hold a lunch kit, snow pants and books safely.

• An extra set of clothing in a labelled ziplock bag (this will remain in student lockers for the school year).

• Lunchbag

• Refillable water bottle.

What do students need for lunch and snacks in Kindergarten?

We eat three times during the school day.

1. First snack: Students are encouraged to eat snacks such as: fruit, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, water, etc.
2. Lunch: This is their biggest meal of the school day. They are encouraged to eat their main lunch item and the rest of their healthy snacks at this time, as well as water.
3. Last snack: Students are welcome to eat any remaining food in their lunch. This is the time they can eat fruit snacks, granola bars, cookies, chips, juice boxes, etc. 
4. We have a tap in the classroom and water bottle refill stations in the hall for water refills.

How should we communicate with our classroom teacher?

Communication between kindergarten families and our kindergarten team will take place using an app called SEESAW. You can download the app on your phone. The class has been set up and you will receive an email with instructions to connect using the app if you are not already connected with another of your children. We will use this app to send you updates, reminders and notifications about our kindergarten class and your child.

How will students be transported to and from school?

We ask that you share how your child will arrive and depart from school each day. We will have an adult walk students to the busses each day after school, another adult will wait outside the east school entrance to ensure each child goes home with their trusted adult/older sibling.
